Lookout Empty Nesters
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

A Galaxy Research Survey in June 2008 reveals that although 22% of young adults are paying off a mortgage, others deal with rising rents and mortgage payments by moving back with their parents.

The survey also revealed that over the next 12 months:

One in ten 18-24 year olds will move back home to save for a house deposit, and

A quarter of those surveyed will look for another roommate to reduce rent.

And Australian families are considering changes too:

27% plan to pay off their mortgage quicker

13% will need to redraw available funds for living expenses

One in 10 may sell to downscale or rent.

Venice – uncover the secrets
Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

One of the world’s most popular travel destinations, Venice is familiar to many on the surface of its canals, but truly known by few. Despite the narrow lanes jam packed with humanity, those who venture just off the ant paths will find a less congested city where the tales of time are told by the walls and monuments.

The very pleasant square Campo de SS Apostoli is a popular spot and, despite its location on the main tourist trail from Santa Lucia rail station to San Marco, is wide enough to offer enough space for all and lets the locals sit and relax with an ice-cold granita or creamy gelato without too much interference.

The Musei Civici Veneziani are a collection of the city’s top museums. One Museum Pass allows for entrance into all of them. Grab one; it’s a great bargain and timesaver when the queues are intimidatingly long. From the enormity of the Doge’s Palace to the fine modern art of the Ca’ Pesaro and the masterpieces of L’Accademia, the Musei Civici Veneziani are all must-sees for visitors in town.
